I miss Emily

So what did I do? Hopped in the car with my best dog Gordie and off to Washington I went. Here I am - in our Nation's capital. This was Gordie's first visit too! In between the raindrops we walked the National Mall. We had such a nice day. I got a good look at Emily's dorm room. Wow living with 3 other girls...EEEEEK! What a mess! Here are some photos from the day.

I'm staying tomorrow - I hope to have more pictures to show. I'll be driving back to NJ early Monday morning!

What to do

with over ripe bananas? Bake banana muffins. I adapted a recipe from Dorie Greenspan - and chose to bake muffins instead of a bundt cake. Had 1 for breakfast. YUM! The only change I would make in the future is to remember to add chopped walnuts. I also bought JUMBO cupcake papers -and you know what? They turned out to be awesome. I even bought another package today in the supermarket.

OK that's all I wanted to say tonight.

OH Gordie!

Gordie loves to be anywhere I am - but he especially loves to sleep/sniggle in the bed pillows. Here are some up close pictures of our favorite dog in the whole wide world!

Can anyone guess how old he is? His gray hair might give it away...

Baking Sunday

Well if it's Sunday that must mean I'M IN MY KITCHEN! Today was no different. I'm on a brioche kind of "thing" don't you agree? Today's treat, BRIOCHE CINNAMON ROLLS. Oh boy - Oh boy - I've not tasted 1 yet, but they sure look good. Unfortunately I was up at my computer and NOT watching the oven and I think I left the rolls to bake about 3 -5 minutes too long. OH well - I guess you know what I'll be eating tomorrow morning for breakfast.

Right now I've got a brisket on the stove. Just felt like it.

Fall is in the air, although it is quite warm outside. The leaves are turning and some are fluttering to the ground. Soon it will be time to get out my rake. BLAAAAAAAAAH I DON'T WANT TO RAKE I TELL YOU! I want to BAKE!

Cool Picture

With all the negative and troublesome news -- I'm going to write about flowers, dogs and baking. How about that? Who needs negativity? It's not healthy.

So #1 we had a rain storm last night and I went out this morning and snapped some photos in my garden. I can never go outside without my best dog, Gordon, following me. So #2 here are some photos of him! #3 I treated myself to an inexpensive Brioche pan - and I baked up a nice bread to take to my mother's for the holiday. Doesn't it look gorgeous? I sure hope it tastes good too!

Other than that - same old. I'm just looking for the bright spot out there in this great land we live in!

Fall is in the air

but I just had to show off our GREEN GRASS and our best dog GORDIE! The Cahn's have never had green grass like this in the Fall - well not ever the summer! No matter how much we treated our front lawn all we ended up with was massive amounts of weeds. Gary and I have our wonderful miracle worker SAM B. to thank!

I also wanted to show you my glorious window boxes. It seems as though my potato vines have taken over - and when I'm ready to pull them out for the season, I will show you the potatoes that I harvest! I am hoping my boxes last until Halloween but it all depends upon the weather and frosts. The 1 thing going for my boxes is that they are up close to the house where there is an ABUDANCE of HOT AIR to go around!

I'm slowly getting over a nasty cold that had me down for the count, but still enough strength to get out all the tie orders that came our way. I know this economy is not good for most, but we all must have a positive attitude and work through it -- starting with ME!

Shame on Me

it's been a week and day since I last posted. Sorry about that!

Well the LONG ties rolled in yesterday and I'm finished picking and shipping the orders. We even drove to the warehouse to buy more cartons to ship all the orders! We pulled up our station wagon to the loading dock and filled up our rig! Too bad I forgot my camera to show you the scene. It was funny - and then for some reason I started having a laughing fit over it all. Guess it was my crazy mood.

I'm battling a cold right now, scratchy throat and what else -- I'M VERY IRRATIBLE! I did manage to make a great dinner for the Jewish New Year with HOME BAKED CHALLAH! How's that MS. MARTHA STEWART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's about it from here. I'm on blog central following the credit crisis and all the other news. It keeps me busy. If only I could master the EVELYN WOODS SPEED READING techniques! Remember her waaaay back when? My Mom sent my sister and me to a class...my sister to this day has and uses the speed reading techniques. Maybe because she's a whole lot older than me! HA HA! Oh and Gary's birthday was sandwiched in between too! I bought him this real cool internet radio - I'm listening to a radio show from Chicago MY NEW FAVORITE TOWN! What will I think of Chicago when I'm there in February when it's cold and brutal outside?

On that note - hope business is trickling for you all out there. Call me for TIES!
