I just have to say

I received my book that I won in that contest back on New Year's eve today!!!!!!!! YIPPEE for me! Ellie Krieger has done a great job! Like I told you all before, I'm not 1 for picking up a cookbook with the words "healthy or Light" in the title. And come to think of it, this book doesn't have either word in the title. But I know Ellie from watching the food channel and I know that she cooks "healthy". Well anyway, I received the book at lunchtime and had like a second to flip through it -- and you know what???? IT'S TERRIFIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tonight, after all my chores are done, I plan on crawling into my bed and reading many of the recipes. I might have to change some of the ingredients I buy weekly at the supermarket. But those of you who don't know me that well -- well I really cook using good ingredients and never ever processed foods. But I can ALWAYS learn, am open to learning and I can't wait to read this book. The folks who reviewed her book on Amazon.com all gave it 5 stars too!

So today was just NUTS! N-U-T-S! Phones ringing, order picking, receiving shipments -- and all on a Monday. I was sortta in a crappy mood -- and kind of whined a bit at the end of the day to Gary. (he's the only 1 around -- so who else can I complain to?) So when my FAVORITE UPS DRIVER, WALTER, came late this afternoon - I was sort of whining to him too! I mean not terrible mind you -- and this guy -- HE N-E-V-E-R E-V-E-R COMPLAINS! So he told me that he was having a not so good day either! I mean my day wasn't horrible -- it just wasn't what I had planned or wanted it to be. Hmmm I know -- it was FRUSTRATING!

So I took no photos today as there was nothing much to photograph.

So I hope you are all well and will come to 1 of the Trade Shows next weekend that our fine salesmen are showing our line at!

Which reminds me -- I have to bake tomorrow so the shipment will arrive in Charlotte ON TIME!

Jane

A Little Down Time

So today, I only worked just a little this morning and went to my favorite supermarket with Russell. We were in the vegetable isle when Russ noticed and picked up leeks. From reading some of my favorite food blogs, I remembered seeing the Smitten Kitchen blog about a leek tart. So we threw the leeks into our shopping cart. Came home, dragged in all the food and I started cooking. I made a quick pie dough and then prepared the leeks and the rest of the ingredients. This tart is much lighter than a quiche as there is no cheese and I used whole milk instead of cream. We only drink skim milk in this house, so whole milk feels like cream to us. Well I followed the instructions and boy did my leek tart come out great. (see photos).

I'm still trying to dig out from all my papers, and I'm really gaining on it! This week we are expecting another shipment of ties to complete the inventory. Then I can pick the orders complete. So please don't forget to go see our sales reps at the Charlotte, Chicago, and Dallas Shows next weekend (Superbowl Weekend).

Had to send off another email regarding the contest I won. I was thinking maybe they never received my email with my name and address. Got a quick email back that all was received and that I must wait 6 - 8 weeks! WOWZERS. In the meantime I read on the Amazon website -- 12 reviews and ALL gave the book 5 STARS! NOW I CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY COPY of Ellie Kreiger's healthy cooking. Wonder if my leek tart would be considered healthy?

OKie DOkie!

Looking forward to the week ahead!

YIPPEE -- I LOVE TIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAA Saturday

COZY GORDIE
Cute pot that Claudia gave to me at the end of the Haberdashery Show. It is the perfect size!!!!!!!!!!!
Yippee...Saturday is here! I slept LATE (7:42am)! First I woke up at 4:00am to the sound of our smoke detector in the kitchen and that it was FREEEEEEZING in the house. Well our furnace was out of water (whatever that means) and the RED LIGHT was on, meaning NO HEAT! So who got up to fill the furnace - yep that would be me! I couldn't deal with the detector beep and by a miracle the beeping stopped once we got heat. What's that all about?

Got up feeling rested and what did I do after having breakfast (homemade coffee cake)? I worked - just a little.

I ran a couple of little errands and came home for lunch. Right before I made my sandwich my friend called saying she was coming down my way and would I like to go for lunch! YIPPEE (again). So off we went and had a nice afternoon.

I was just knitting - trying to relax...but now it's time for Russ's indoor baseball practice. Guess I'm going (45 minute ride) since I don't feel like sitting home alone.

OH look at that picture of Gordie...doesn't he look so cozy! Not a care in the world! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

All righty then,

Best,
Jane

The Haberdashery Show has ended

and now it's time to get back to my routine and normal life. Gosh -- I feel as tho I lost the last week of my life! All us vendors sit together for 10+ hours a day. We really get to know 1 another and make nice friends. I hand out my cookies, we talk, we laugh -- we go INSANE when it's quiet! All in all everything went FANTASTIC. For those of you who came by our booth, THANK YOU. For those of you who didn't...well we're going to be showing our goods at the Charlotte and Chicago Shows both the same weekend (February 1st). Please call us or our sales reps for appts.

Today, Gary is in NYC at the Collective talking to his vendors for his magazine. Hope you all want to participate. What a great piece to get you more customers! And we ALL can use new customers in these crazy times.

I will close for now since I have to start entering the orders and getting myself organized. Here are a few photos from the show.

Best,

Jane

PS Our son, Russell, came the last day of the show as he had the day off from school. What help he was breaking down the booth and helping us shlepp our stuff to our car! WAY TO GO RUSS!!!!!!!!!!!

Day 1 or is it Day 2?

of the Haberdashery Show? Whatever...it's all good.

Today we saw some new folks and some long time faithful customers. We are getting the same reaction...hey Gary and Jane, your ties are drop dead this season! And drop dead they are! You just have to see the beautiful spring colors we have picked for our Spring neckwear.

I know I keep saying the same thing OVER and OVER...but...DON'T FORGET TO COME BY FOR YOUR COOKIES! They are going fast and furiously --and also getting the same reaction!

Best,

Jane

PS I think I might need to have a piece of my apple pie from last night. I LOVE PIE!

Is it SET UP Day? Is it the FIRST DAY

of the Haberdashery Show? Hard to tell! Gary and I started out our usual EEEEEEARLY! We hate traffic -- so we were in NYC, parked and all our neckwear at our booth by 6:45am! THAT'S SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But that's us! We packed our line so well this show -- all neat and tidy and organized. Our man, Jonathan, the trimmer made our booth look its usual amazing. So we're all set up and ready to show you our lines of ties, 9 folds, pocket squares and new this season BOW TIES!

We said hello to all our old friends who show at the Haberdashery and it feels like home in the Kent Room. We showed our line a few times today and had great response. I mean REALLY GREAT response! We were BUSY!!!!!!!!!!!

In the middle of it all, Gary got a call from a customer in Louisiana. He had called the day before and bought our line SIGHT UNSEEN and had the merchandise shipped overnight. He called Gary to tell him thanks and how wonderful all the merchandise is. This customer also called his sales rep -- and told him how GREAT the Private Stock Menswear Line is too! So our sales rep called so excited that he needed his sample line shipped Overnite! I had to leave the show to come back and put his line in a box and send it out UPS. I had to leave Gary for the afternoon, but I got to get home and see our son and make us all dinner. And to relax...what did I do? I baked an apple pie! Sheesh, I got up at 4:15am and I'm baking a pie? That's just CRAZY.

So on that note, I will close for tonight. I had my camera with me but forgot to snap pictures of our customers today! I'm so annoyed at myself.

Anyway, come on by the show and see us this weekend. Don't forget to pick up your bag of biscotti too!

Best,
Jane

PS My sister bought me these cool cutouts for for pie crusts. Aren't they cool?!

Finished for Now

Well I'm finally finished with all my swatching for the Haberdashery Show. I do have a couple more things to do before I send out all the sales reps lines, but I'm working on it! What a long day I had! Good thing I decided to bake up my biscotti while watching the Biggest Loser last night. Now if that's not a sick thing ... watching obese people lose weight and I'm baking. I have to say I tasted the ends of the cookies too! Well I did have to make sure my stuff is edible!!!!!! I think this season, I'm loving the Almond cookies. I used a lot more orange zest and they taste so good.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all over the long weekend. I'll have my computer so I'll be blogging and taking photos and posting them.

Best!

POUNDS of BISCOTTI DOUGH

I have more than I can really handle on my plate, but I know you all enjoy my cookies. So after making the din-din, cleaning it up, I made all the biscotti dough. That's the messiest part of the whole project. It took me an hour! I had some assembly line going. I sure hope they bake up great and taste good too! I didn't take photos because did I ever make a mess! The flour was flying out of the bowl -- the nuts, the chips! Oh what yummy ingredients.

Tomorrow I've more more swatching to do and getting our sales reps lines ready. Some are going out tomorrow, but they are not yet complete. What can we do? It's a fight to the finish line that's a for sure.

So yesterday in NJ the weathermen and the newscasters were hyping up this "major" snow storm in our area. Oh they had all the forces out even before anything happened. Before we went to bed it had started to rain. The forecast was for the weather to change over to all snow come midnight. Well midnight came and not 1 flake came down! I got up my usual 6:00am to walk Gordie and get the day started and still not a drop of snow! I had to wake Russell and tell him that in fact school was on! So while I was doing my swatching today, I had the radio on to the news. Don't you know NJ spent over $1 million dollars on this NON-STORM! I guess they called in the overnight crews to get ready to do the plowing and salting. Guess us New Jerseyians (is there such a word?) will be paying for that screw up! A MILLION DOLLARS FOR A LITTLE RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry there are no pictures to post. I could show you the mounds of dough in my fridge ready for the big bake-off, but that might leave too hungry!

On another note, we have been using SKYPE to talk to Emily at school! It's so darn great! I showed her what I was making for dinner, and Russ held up Gordie so she could see him. It's really a great way to talk to someone!

I must now go and put my feet up. I've had a looooooooong day and haven't sat down for 1 minute! Will you all stop by our booth in NYC to see me and get your bag of cookies? If you can't make it to NYC, I'm planning on baking and shipping my cookies to Charlotte and Chicago! Well I'm saying that now...but I'll probably get my strenghth back to do the job!

Best!

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME..............

NECKWEAR and other fine accessories??????????? Gary and I have been working NON stop to prepare the lines for the Trade Shows and our fine sales force. I don't know where to begin to tell you have GREAT GREAT GREAT the Private Stock Menswear line truly is this season. As I'm making the swatch cards, I'm liking each and every pattern. I can't even pick a favorite this season because there are too many GREAT designs and colors. I think the workmanship and the craftsman ship of the line is #1.

We have a new line of 9 FOLD ties a comin too! I can't wait to tackle that project.

Did you know we have a White prefolded linen pocket square added to the line? It's so great. Gary wore the first sample last week and got great complements. What doesn't "go" with white?

New this season, is our line of printed 16" pocket squares. I can't WAIT to get a look at 1 of those.

All in all there is something for everyone in this line of accessories that we sell. OOPS I forgot, we've even added to our fine line of formal wear neckwear as well.

So come one come all and see us in NY, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, and New England. Or call 1 of our fine sales reps in your area! They'd love to show you the new line.

On another note, we just shipped out our daughter for her second semester of school. It was a bittersweet good-bye. On 1 hand, she's my partner in crime -- but on another she oh so misses her new school mates and there is absolutely NOTHING going on for her here at home. In fact, she became a blob on our couch in front of the TV and computer for 4 solid weeks. Oh she did leave the cocoon of what we call our backroom for some visiting of friends -- but mostly she just relaxed and got her strength back from a very intense semester. Emily's GPA is 0.04 away from receiving more scholarship money -- so she's got some lofty goals to try and achieve. We'll have to see how it all plays out.

Jane

I WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While surfing New Year's Eve (exciting life I lead)I landed on a new food blog called www.seriouseats.com. I entered this contest which all I had to do was write something about a healthy food that I like to eat in the coming year. So all I wrote was, "Pink Grapefruit. Oh so juicy." Yesterday after coming back from dropping off fabric at the swatch maker, I got an email saying I won the contest and that they needed my address to send me a copy of Ellie Krieger's new book on healthy eating! I hope the book is good! I personally HATE any magazine or book that has "healthy" in the title. Don't get me wrong, I don't eat fast food or junk food - and I think I do cook healthy. I just don't want to be preached to in a book! So after I get my copy I'll let you know how I like it.

On the swatch card front -- WOWZERS do I have a ton of work to get done within a week! Always pressed to the wall to get things done! I think all of us garmentos are in the same boat when it comes to getting the lines ready in January.

I can't wait to see you all next week at the Warwick. I also have to fit in baking too! OH YUM! I can always find time to bake! Is your mouth watering yet?

OK take care and

Best,

Jane

Blogging

Oh brother -- the time between Christmas and New Year's I really started to read blogs. And I found the way to discover new blogs is by reading the comment sections and clicking onto other blogs that way. So now I have a huge list of favorite cooking and knitting blogs that I'm addicted to. My waistline is suffering let me tell you.

So I wanted to show you out there what our son ate for lunch yesterday. Mind you, he's 16 years old -- that being said -- how does he NOT gain tons of weight? Russell went out to play hockey for 4 hours. I've never seen how it all goes but he must be burning tons of calories. While he was out playing yesterday, Emily and I did our routine food shop. (yep, Emily is still home from college! For all that it costs you'd think they'd be in school LEARNING not being home for a month doing nothing!) Ok back to Russ. I was in the freezer section and I heard in the back of my head, "Mom please buy me some good snacks!" I found these frozen burgers that the box says will be ready in seconds. Emily ran out to pick up Russ after his 4 hour hockey extravaganza. I showed Russ the box of burgers I bought and watched what he did. Russ set out a plate and microwaved all 12 burgers! I watched!!!!!!!! He scarfed down the burgers in a 1/2 second and finished up 3/4's of a bag of Kettle chips! He chased that with about 6 donut holes. IMAGINE IF I EVER ATE THAT AMOUNT OF HIGH CALORIE FOOD? I don't think I'd fit in this desk chair to be writing these blogs! AAAAAAAAAAAAAH to be young. Just now, for breakfast, Russ ate 3 WHOLE BAGELS only 1 with cream cheese!

OK then 12 days until the Haberdashery Show at the Warwick. Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible and writing the orders for our gorgeous neckwear!

Best,

Jane

My First Post in 2008!

Gordie looking for his buddy the squirrel

Hope you all rang in 2008 with a loud cheer. Me, well hmmmm went out early with friends so that we could come home to be together when the ball dropped. I kept falling asleep on the couch with Emily screaming at me every 5 minutes to WAKE UP! So I saw that glittery ball drop, kissed my loved 1's and climbed into bed. It's a non event for us -- maybe next year I'll finally have that New Year's party I always wanted to throw.

Haven't really made an firm New Year's resolutions. But I do know that I'm going to work hard, as always, to make Private Stock Menswear the best it can be.

On that note, it's time for me to finish up my swatch cards that are in and do the rest of my tasks.

All the best in 2008 to everyone out there!
